What is a Bench Warrant?
A bench warrant is a variation of an arrest warrant. It is issued by a judge. If you have a bench warrant out for your arrest, you probably failed to appear in court when you promised to do so. Such a warrant is then entered into  the Department of Justice computer system. When you are stopped by a police officer who runs your driver's license number through the system, your warrant will show up and you will be arrested. What's worse - you may not be able to bail out of it if you have warrants on other cases or if you have failed to appear before the court on prior occasions.
A judge can issue such a warrant if you:
- Did Not Show Up in Court on the Date You Were Scheduled to be Present There
- Failed to Pay a Fine or Penalty
- Did Not Show Up for Community Service
- Failed to Pay Child Support as Mandated by the Family Court
